This is another awesome book by Anna McNuff. She takes us from the heights of La Paz, all the way to the southern tip of America in Usuahia, riding through the changing landscape of the Andes. In this trip, through Bolivia, Chile and Argentina, Anna helps us to think about friendship, love, loneliness, distance, immensity, effort, pain, adventure, fear and joy. The book is written in a very plain and easy-going style that is a pleasure to read. I was happy to see Anna and Faye finishing their trip, but I was sad to finish the book. I enjoyed it a lot!! This book is more about a friendship than it is a travelogue. What comes through loud and clear is that Anna McDuff is one of the most thoughtful people I could ever imagine when it comes to treating her friends well. But then, how many people are going to have a friend who gives up months of her life to torture herself on a bicycle?If you want to read about interactions with llamas, animals and people in South America; this book is not it--except for a dog or two. If you want pictures of beautiful South America--there aren't any. You do read about the weather, a wonderful friendship, and facing hardship with a sense of humor. Interesting, but it probably won't make you put South America at the top of your bucket list.
